The Choral

From the very beginning, you’ll start using Spanish actively greeting others, asking simple questions, sharing personal information, and gaining confidence with key verbs like ser, tener, and llamarse. As the weeks progress, you’ll expand your vocabulary to include countries, professions, adjectives, numbers, and common activities, giving you the tools to express who you are and understand others.

My name is Deborah, and I come from Madrid, the vibrant capital of Spain. I was born in Santiago de Compostela, the city famous for marking both the beginning and the end of the “Camino de Santiago.”

After completing my teaching qualification, I chose to move to England in September 2006 to truly master the language and immerse myself in the culture.

I’ve always been fascinated by languages—their structure, their history, and the way they allow us to connect with others on a deeper level. Understanding a language opens the door to understanding people, and that has always inspired me.

Starting from scratch, you will learn basic fundamental techniques in order to create uplifting, authentic rhythms. Revisiting our most popular workshop with some add-ons….

Whilst the winter season is upon us lets admire and create snowy landscapes. If you are yearning for sunnier times,we’ll switch up the colours.

Applying the pigments in a deceptively simple way to indicate a landscape, we add the magic ingredient then step back to watch skies, landscape and trees develop. Each is unique and endlessly fascinating as time and movement helps create these fantastic loose landscapes. We choose, we control and then have to let go and let the water do the work. We can then explore layering extra detail. Materials can be minimal, decent paper and three colours [see guidance].

Although loose, we’ll check our understanding of compositional proportions as a underpinning [using our left hand brain before we ‘dance’ over to the right]. Developing our understanding of how we need to be to create abstracted, looser work.

Whether you like traditional or abstract colours, this is ideal for students wanting more confidence in wet in wet style, those who want to loosen up, those who like fast results and those who like a healthy portion of fun with their art. A delicious day of colour, water and risk!

This 3-hour workshop offers you an exciting opportunity to explore your creativity and imagination through warm-up games, mindfulness-based practices, and short spontaneous bursts of writing (flash fiction and non-fiction), which you will be invited to share with the group (optional).

Deep listening to each reading in turn will be followed by an embodied group response using our physicality to reflect what touched us, as well as a brief feedback discussion. This is to help each person to feel seen, supported and inspired.

The overall workshop focus is on unleashing our creativity, using play and inquiry to get into flow state and find your spontaneity, creativity, listening and collaboration.  

The type of prompts to stimulate our writing ‘bursts’ will be stories or thoughts around dreaming, reimagining, nature and community.  Some reflection on the past year, to lead us into the next, will underlie these themes.

We will have breaks for drinks and snacks but please come having had lunch.

Virginia Woolf defied literary conventions to depict rich inner worlds – her heightened, startling and poignant reality. Resident Choreographer Wayne McGregor leads a luminous artistic team to evoke Woolf’s signature stream of consciousness writing style in this immense work that rejects traditional narrative structures. Woolf Works is a collage of themes from Mrs Dalloway, Orlando, The Waves and Woolf’s other writings. A highly accessible show filled with music, clowning, song and dance.

There is only one word used in our show – it’s ‘Hay!’ Like the stuffing in Geenie’s scarecrow, ‘Hay!’ like the sound she makes when he comes to life and ‘Hay!’ when he sees all the wonders of the natural world for the first time. Only one word but so many meanings in a show about growing up in the heart of the countryside and discovering that you don’t have to stay stuck in the mud – you can live your dreams, spread your wings and fly like the birds.

In this beautiful story Farmer Geenie guides scarecrow step by step as he finds his feet, then his hands, his voice, his legs and his love of song and dance in a story about the fun of growing up where every moment there’s something new to make you say ‘Hay!’ We’ve got charming puppets – birds, butterflies and bees – and some very wonderful eggs each with their own particular surprises.

Beginners Spanish "Spanish In Your Pocket"

In Term 2 you will take the Spanish you learned in the first term and apply it to real travel situations. The focus shifts toward practical communication in places like restaurants, shops, hotels and pharmacies. You will learn how to order food confidently, understand menus, ask for recommendations and talk about quantities using common verbs such as querer, preferir and tomar. As the term continues you will explore everyday shopping language so you can ask about prices, sizes and colors, use comparisons and interact naturally with shop assistants.

You will also develop the skills needed to handle accommodation and travel needs. This includes booking a hotel room, requesting services and explaining simple problems without using past tenses. You will learn useful phrases such as “tengo un problema” and “¿puede ayudarme?”, which help you communicate clearly in unfamiliar situations. Later you will focus on health related language so you can describe symptoms, express pain and ask for support in pharmacies or clinics using structures like me duele and tener + noun.

The term finishes with a full review and practical roleplays that bring all your skills together. You will practice real scenarios involving restaurants, hotels, directions, shopping, airports and general information requests. You will also take part in a short oral assessment where you introduce yourself, describe places, express your needs and talk about simple travel plans using ir a + infinitive. By the end of Term 2 you will feel more confident navigating Spanish speaking environments and communicating with greater ease.

My name is Deborah, and I come from Madrid, the vibrant capital of Spain. I was born in Santiago de Compostela, the city famous for marking both the beginning and the end of the “Camino de Santiago.”

After completing my teaching qualification, I chose to move to England in September 2006 to truly master the language and immerse myself in the culture.

I’ve always been fascinated by languages—their structure, their history, and the way they allow us to connect with others on a deeper level. Understanding a language opens the door to understanding people, and that has always inspired me.

Over the years, I’ve taught in schools, delivered Spanish classes, and offered private tutoring. I now dedicate myself to working full-time as a Spanish tutor, helping learners develop their skills and encouraging them to explore and appreciate Spanish and Latin culture

Acrylics have many lovely properties, not least is the ability to overlay them and paint out mistakes! Yet their flexibility can make them seem complicated at times.

Planning our colour story and keeping it limited keeps things simple yet can have a lot of impact, You may want to bring an image and plan for it [see guidance, then only a few paints needed] or work from one of my images as a starting point.

This simplified 3 stage process starts with an abstract underpainting to establish composition and set the tone. These paintings can be exciting in their own right and you may want to stop there! For other we will continue to layer on the key areas of tone, working our way up to more distance, form, focal point and detail.

This simplified process actually summarizes many key principles and with clarity lets you concentrate on the strokes and colour mixing to produce a more successful painting. Possibly Alla Prima’ ie painted all in one sitting…that’s up to your industry!

Bargello Floral Vase Workshop.

Try the fun and simple craft of bargello needlepoint and create a pretty floral vase. All materials will be provided including your glass vase that will be covered by your bargello needlepoint stitched canvas. You may not complete the floral vase during the workshop but you will learn all the techniques you need and leave with the pattern and all the materials so you can continue this relaxing craft and complete your project at home. Playing on a range of instruments, including snares, congas, surdos, bells and shakers, we’ll put together an infectious Brazilian carnival groove complete with breaks, intros and improvisation. The previous session was so much fun, by the end we had managed to create a fully functioning marching samba band! Although it’s marvellous to carry around cameras on our phones for instant pics they rarely capture the beauty ,the mood and the colours that captivated us.

Well there’s an art to working from photos and with the right approach ‘boring’ ones may be a real gift.

Using Liana’s 6 step process, approach your photos with new eyes and knowledge to turn even the most unpromising into gems. We’ll analyse what to keep, lose, change, before using your preferred medium to create illusions of good depth, hero items, and enlivened colour stories. With some balancing and adjusting we’ll bring these dull scenes to life and see why it’s better to create with our artists brain than use overprocessed AI images.

If you don’t always have great photos to reach for inspiration, come and turn that into a positive and produce more unique and artistic paintings. Feel free to bring any of your photos to learn with alongside mine.

Spring Floral Wreath Workshop.

Ever wanted to learn to play the Djembe drum? Now is your opportunity to discover the wonderful world of West African drumming. The session is hosted by James Carr who has over 25 years experience playing drums and percussion as well as more than 20 years teaching experience. In the session you will learn to play authentic West African djembe patterns, develop technique and together we will create an almighty sound. The sessions are aimed at adults and are open to all whether you are a complete beginner or an experienced player. Try the fun craft of macrame and create a gorgeous bag. There’s a saying ‘less is more’, when applied to painting space can help showcase the points of interest and let a painting breathe.

But how do we do it without leaving strangely boring bits?!

Using the parallels of the plate method we will consider possible space divisions, how to be empty but not dull, what’s suitable to the painting and even how our own personal preferences influence this. You can choose your own subject for painting [from yours or my reference materials] then hold ourselves back as we plan, REMOVE and shape a new style of design.

Do bring an old painting that you can see was too busy, as a starting point for discussing where to let go of content.

Handling the power of space in a painting can be revolutionary for our work, we typically overfill. This gives us a method of creating more stunning, less busy work, that stands out from the crowd. Somehow doing less creates more……how clever!

Now, spanning space and time, these two Titans of twang, Cash and Wagons, perfectly intertwine in this new show honouring the songs, arrangements and stories behind these perfectly curated songs. In CASH: A JOURNEY THROUGH THE AMERICAN RECORDINGS, HENRY WAGONS will lean into the deep mythology and sound of The American Recordings Albums. Featuring the favourites Solitary Man (Neil Diamond), I Hung My Head (Sting), The Mercy Seat (Nick Cave), Hurt (Nine Inch Nails), One (U2) and more, Wagons and his band The Tennessee Studs will re-create the sonic depth, poise and ominous force of the original recordings, as if you were sitting with Cash and Rubin in the control room.

Come and make your own 2D plasticine Elephant character and then animate them enjoying a nice cup of tea and a bun - or maybe a messy one!! Things could get VERY messy at an Elephants Tea Party!! I wonder how you would drink a cup of tea and eat a bun if you were an elephant??? It's up to you! :)

Parents must stay for session with children under 8
