The Choral
In The Choral, set in 1916 Yorkshire during the First World War, the local choral society faces the challenge of continuing their musical traditions as many of their male members enlist to fight. Determined to keep the choir alive, the society recruits a group of teenagers and appoints Dr. Henry Guthrie (Ralph Fiennes), a driven and uncompromising conductor recently returned from Germany, to lead them. As the young singers grapple with their impending conscription, they find solace and a sense of community in their shared passion for music. Directed by Nicholas Hytner and written by Alan Bennett, the film explores themes of loss, resilience, and the unifying power of art amidst the backdrop of war. With a rich ensemble cast and evocative cinematography, The Choral offers a poignant reflection on the human spirit's capacity to find harmony even in the darkest of times.
