Spanish Beginner 1: “Spanish in your pocket” is a 12 week introductory course that builds practical communication skills for everyday situations. Students learn how to greet others, introduce themselves, and share personal information such as nationality, profession, and age. They develop confidence using numbers and telling the time, describing people, and speaking about daily routines. The course introduces key grammar such as ser, tener, regular and irregular present tense verbs, reflexive verbs, and common question forms, giving learners a solid foundation in essential Spanish structures.
The program also prepares students for real travel and social contexts. Learners practice asking for and giving directions, ordering food, shopping, booking accommodation, and handling basic health situations. They work with useful verbs like querer, poder, preferir, costar, and doler, and learn functional phrases to express needs and solve problems. By the end of the course, students can manage common everyday interactions with greater independence and confidence, using practical Spanish that they can apply immediately.
Meet your tutor, Deborah:
My name is Deborah, and I come from Madrid, the vibrant capital of Spain. I was born in Santiago de Compostela, the city famous for marking both the beginning and the end of the “Camino de Santiago.”
After completing my teaching qualification, I chose to move to England in September 2006 to truly master the language and immerse myself in the culture.
I’ve always been fascinated by languages—their structure, their history, and the way they allow us to connect with others on a deeper level. Understanding a language opens the door to understanding people, and that has always inspired me.
Over the years, I’ve taught in schools, delivered Spanish classes, and offered private tutoring. I now dedicate myself to working full-time as a Spanish tutor, helping learners develop their skills and encouraging them to explore and appreciate Spanish and Latin culture.
