Week 1 - Hockney and the UK Pop Art Movement

Week 2 - Hockey: Insider and Outsider

Week 3 - David Hockney 's Art

This 3 week course will consider how David Hockney was defined as a Pop Artist on the one hand, but how Hockney and others rejected this label. He was both inside and outside the 'art establishment' of the 1960's.

Week 1: We will look at the beginnings of Pop Art in Britain, Hockney 's origins, and how he was connected to the movement in the early 60's and his move to America in 1964.

Week 2: We will look at how his work both defined and rejected the Pop Art label - we will look his work of the period (1961-1969) and explore how his work  both fitted in with, and went beyond the parameters of 'Pop Art'.

Week 3: We will explore Hockney 's work after the Pop Art period and look at how he developed his techniques and ideas across different media (painting, photography, and digital art).

Open to anyone with an interest in this topic.

£45.50 for the three-week course (cost includes booking fee).
